A wall sleeve — a Wanddurchführung — is the piece that carries the pipe through a wall into the chimney, and it exists because the pipe itself may not touch the masonry. Three figures decide. The internal diameter matches the pipe. The sleeve length must exceed the thickness of the wall it crosses, which sounds obvious and is the most common return on this shelf: a 25 cm sleeve in a 36 cm wall is a part that cannot be fitted. And the insulation: single-wall sleeves are meant for masonry, double-wall and insulated sleeves exist for walls with combustible material in them, and the two are not interchangeable whatever the diameters say. Then the rosette, the plate that covers the opening on the room side, which is cosmetic in appearance and structural in effect — it is what stops the sleeve being pushed further in.
